Prof. Ohno – SPP 1191 “Paul Walden Award” winner 2008

Prof. Hiroyuki Ohno, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, is the first laureate of the SPP’s "Paul Walden Lecture Award". This lecture award is  granted every year to one member of the international ionic liquid community having contributed in an outstanding manner to the recent advances in the field. The awardee is selected among the sponsored researchers in the DFG priority programme “Ionic Liquids” (SPP 1191) in a democratic election.

Prof. Ohno is the first prize winner. His lecture tour around Germany comprised scientific talks and discussions at the universities of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Leipzig, Rostock, Bochum, Darmstadt and Aachen. The prize ceremony took place November, 28 in Rostock where Paul Walden has spent a very important part of his scientific career. Prof. Ohno's group has contributed in recent years very important fundamental studies on ion-ion interactions in functionalized and task-specific ionic liquids. These results are of great relevance for the use of ionic liquids as novel electrolytes and as solvents for biomass dissolution and transformation.
